Savannah's Prayer

We recently started being more dedicated about family home evening. Eric will usually read a story from the friend and we will sing a song. Eric says he loves the solo practice. We always start the event out with a prayer. Usually for family prayer, Eric and I take turns. The kids really dont want to... so we were suprised with Savannah volunteered to say the prayer. Eric and I couldn't stop laughing after she said it. So cute and so sweet!
Here is the prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father, Thanks you so much for family home evening. We love it so much. We wish it was everynight. We believe in Santa Claus, the tooth fairy and (there was something else...) In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Love the part about the tooth fairy, since we havent had a visit yet!

Savannah as Kit

Savannah as Kit!
I had decided that Savannah needed a haircut. I checked to the Locks of Love website to see what the length is that she would need to be able to donate it. She would need 10 inches. I just wasn't sure about it. I asked her how she would feel about cutting all her hair off to donate to a sick kid so that they could have hair. Her first response was no. I left it at that. I figure she is old enough to make her own decisions. I did tell her that she was getting a hair cut no matter what. So I started thinking 4 or 5 inches. She woke up this morning and said that she wanted hair like Kit's. Kit Kitridge the American girl doll. WOW!! I am not sure that I could handle that. I am not a short hair person. I had short hair all through college and well, I really don't like doing thick short hair. So we went to Monica's and she did it. She put her hair in 2 ponies and cut. It was crazy! Savannah is so excited about it. She is telling everyone to look at her new hair do. She is way sassy! She also looks so much older. I will miss ponytails and buns in her hair but if she is anything like me, her hair will grow back. And it will do it fast!!

Dinner Conversations

Last night, while eric was frying the taco shells for dinner. (It is Taco Tuesday and he prefers the way that he frys them.) The girls were getting crazy and antsy. They love tacos and couldnt wait for dinner. We decided to play I Spy. It was a great diversion and the girls loved it.

While they were eating this conversation took place:

Savannah: "What's your name?"
Me: "Matilda Jane Finkweiler"
Olivia: "Noooo, you are mom!" She was very emphatic about this.
S: "No you are natalie"
Eric: "I am Bob"
Natalie: " We are Bob and Matilda Jane Finkweiler."
Both Girls: " No, you are Eric and Natalie."

It is really fun for Olivia to be learning our names and being so expressive in the things she believes. Savannah is just sassy. Plain and Simple.

Shock Of Her Life!

I know it has been a few months....9 to be exact but who's counting?

I was told the funniest story this past weekend and had to share. Eric's Grandma Zoe is 94 (or something) years old. She lived in a care center the past year until Alan and April (Eric's brother and sister in law) fixed up their basement for her. It is a really nice basement apartment complete with elevator. They are awesome to take her in. Grandma Zoe has been cranky for the past 5 years. Everyone has had a hard time being with her. She complains and is grouchy unless she has her "magic" pill. So Grandma has been living with Alan and April. She has been in a great mood but she is just a little crazy and says funny things. This is her recent funny thing.

April's kids have sewing and cooking lessons on Fridays, so she has a family member come into feed Grandma lunch and make sure she takes her afternoon pill. (This is a necessity!!) So last Friday it was Molly's turn to go and be with Grandma. Her daughter Marie was playing with a picture of Savannah as a baby. Grandma was shocked that it was her picture, but that got her talking about our last visit when my girls were playng with Alan on the floor. She said how Alan is not a very big guy and either is Eric, but Darren (Eric's Twin) is a big guy. Molly replied how funny it was since Eric and Darren were twins that they were so different. A few minutes later, Grandma said wait... Eric and Darren are twins. She goes on to say how they have kept this a secret from her for 40 years and why would they do this to me. How could they not tell me, on and on..... Molly left and April came home and Grandma told April that she had the "Shock of a Lifetime!" Eric and Darren are twins!! When Alan came home from work that night, he set her straight that she probably just forgot. She told me all about it yesterday as well. How they kept this a secret from her and how she tended the kids all the time and never told her. Funny Grandma!!!! I just couldn't imagine how they kept this a secret from Grandma for 33 years. Did they just show up with 2 babies and say that maybe one is the neighbors or was left on the doorstep!!! We all had a good laugh at this one!!!
I did tell Laurel (eric's mom) about this and she was flabbergasted. She said that when they told Grandma, she was expecting twins, Grandma said this was the most exciting thing that had ever happened to her. Getting old is rough. I am just happy that Grandma is so much more enjoyable to be around.

My Quirky Savannah

There are a few things that Savannah does that makes me laugh. She is just so particular sometimes that I try to hold in the laughter and then I just can't.

  • Going down the stairs, she will not step on the third stair. She says it is on fire. Watching her reach her little legs from step 2 to 4 makes me laugh. Or get me mad when I am behind her and just want to get down the stairs

  • We have 16" slate floor in our kitchen. She will only step on certain tile because of alligators. She gets mad at me when I step on the alligators or she fears my life. Haven't quite figured that out.

  • She calls crayons, coloring crayons.

  • She thinks her middle name is Pumpernickel. For real. Ask her but don't laugh. I think it is cute and don't want her to give it up.

  • She calls Ayden McRae her boyfriend. Not sure why they only play together once in a while. And then they don't really play together.

  • She also calls her cousin Jamison her boyfriend. Can't figure that one out either.

  • She just tried to give duck away to her friend Ellie. I stopped that, (mean mom!) duck was second child to me for too long to have me watch him go to another family and I don't think Cami needs him.

  • She thinks her birthday is soon. And she will be all grown up at 5.

  • She asks for cereal with milk since I usually give it to her in a bag. I hate the spilled milk.

  • She handed me an apple as I was walking out the door last night and told me that apples are healthy snacks.

  • I asked her how she got so smart and she told me her teachers at school.

  • She calls my mom Grandma Andi. She is the only grandkid to do that. It started because my dad was calling my mom by her name and Savannah corrected him. She told him her name was Grandma. After that it stuck.
  • When she asks for chips and cheese, I know she is talking about nachos. She gets really mad when I order and call them nachos. She corrects me every time. But she loves them. Oh and she prefers them from Taco Bell, not del taco. (Thanks Sara!)

There are more and I will add them as I remember them.

Cleaning the Draper Temple!

Yesterday was our Stake's Day to volunteer at the Draper Temple. Eric was an usher in the morning. From 7 am to 11 am. He was the man who would great you after coming out of the tunnel into the Stake Center. It wasn't real busy for him so it was kind of boring. Our assignment was to clean the temple from 10 pm to Midnight. At first, I have to admit I was a little sad. I wanted a cool usher job or something else. I got over that real fast. I loved our job! It was so much fun to be in the temple and just be able to wander around. We were assigned our job last. We got to empty all the little garbage cans in the whole temple. We basically had to search out all the little garbage cans. And there are a lot of them! and they hide!!

I am really excited about the Draper Temple. It will be our temple and I cant wait to go to it after it is dedicated. The Celestial Room is so beautiful. If though it is not dedicated you can feel the spirit and know what a special place that it is. The most fun part of the night was that we got to wear jeans! In the temple! This was definitely an experience. We are so blessed to have a temple so close to us and just for us!

This also brought back a memory for me when we first moved into the Crescent 17th ward, we had the opportunity to clean the Jordan River Temple. It was a lot more work being just a busy temple. You had to have a recommend and we had to change our clothes into white clothing. I remember this as a time I got to know more people in a new ward. We met the Wells and the McRae's that night. I remember being so jealous of Charlene's hearing aids. We were using the beater brush on the vacuum to clean upholstery and it was so loud!! She just turn off her "hearing" and went on her way.

camera battery

We found the battery. Well, Eric found the battery. It was in the glove compartment of the car from our trip to California. Yep, exactly where I left it. I am the genius!

Halloween

I am so behind. Here is Halloween. Since we did Disney Trick or Treat and had a few other parties and days and days of costumes, when the actual day arrived, I was done with Halloween. It really isnt one of my favorite holidays and then to have it drag on and on was just too much for me.
Savannah was Cinderella. This is actually a dress up. She wouldnt wear the one the was shiny and just a little cuter. She had to wear "the Cinderella that Ayden gave her".
Olivia was a poodle at night and cowgirl during the day. I loved the poodle costume. Her bottom was so cute when she walked. She loved wearing this and wore it all the time.

lack of blog motivation

sorry for the long and then really long hiatus. i just havent had the motivation that I would like to have. there are so many things that i want to do with my blog and at times i just dont have the time i would like to dedicate to it. so i will try harder and to post more than ever two months.

ps. what do you do if you lose your camera battery charger?

tap tap tap

tap, tap, tap.

that is how i was woken up this morning. with a tap tap to my forehead by savannah. I opened my eyes to her and was a little surprised. i usually hear the door and am ready to get her or take her downstairs. she looks at me and says "i am chilly mom". she climbed into bed with me and she snuggled in close and she was a little chilly. it was funny. she drifted back to sleep easily. it usually takes a lot to convince her to get into bed with me in the morning so i can get a few more minutes of sleep, so i was happy that she came willingly. the taps just were funny.

flip flops

Eric is gone visiting his grandma and he took savannah with him. I am just hanging with Olivia. She found a pair of flip flops of Savannah's and put them on. It was so cute. I then remembered a pair I bought Savannah and went to go and get them. They fit perfectly. She was so proud that she was wearing flip flops. So cute! Of course she was walking a little funny but still cute! Ignore the dirty shirt and messy hair. We had a day off here. We did nothing but stay home. It was a great day! OH and I got to be the lucky one to clean the toilets.

debit card

okay. here is a post. it not a positive one though.

yesterday, i was checking the answering machine. something, i rarely do. in fact, i hate to do it. the first message was an automated call from my bank asking is recent charges to my debit card were okay. stop. wait. no more messages listened to. signed on to my account. something i usually do everyday but knew that i hadn't used my card, so i wasn't worried. sure enough. someone had been using my card. there were several charges for small amounts. we are talking like $2.49. called my bank and stopped my card. (dad having private banking seriously rocks! i didn't have to wait on the phone and i got to talk to a person!) anyway....nathan at the bank stopped a few other questionable charges. so then i had to file a police report. and then sign an affidavit to the key explaining things. seriously, the total was less than $100. OK. I couldn't believe it. I was so happy to have caught this but seriously, $100. I was lucky or the thief was really stupid. I always thought you should go big or go home. After talking to the banker and the police officer, they seemed to think it happened at a resturant or a fast food place. my card out of sight and they copied the numbers. all the charges were online and they had my code on the back. crazy huh? I actually called one of the places and i bet you can guess what our thief bought. PORN! Yep, porn. SO happy that I was able to help with that. The officer I talked with also said that it almost happened to her at taco time. the girl who tried it with her didn't know she was a cop. Nice. So that was yesterday! Crazy!!!

lasterday

lasterday-savannah's word for talking about things that happened the day before. Most people would use the word yesterday, at our house it is lasterday.

Use in a sentence: I went with aunt kris to watch lexi play soccer, lasterday.

she has also begun calling kris, aunt kris and paul, uncle paul. kind of funny. for some strange reason they are the only ones with titles!!

Cucumber pumpernickel

eric has called savannah a funny little name for a while. He likes to call her Savannah Pumpernickel. It is funny. For a long time she would just laugh, now when you ask her what her middle name is she will answer Pumpernickel.

Here is a conversation that happened one sunday after church.

Eric: How is my cute little Savannah Cucumber?
Savannah: I'm not a vegetable.
E: You're not a vegetable. How come?
S: I have feet. Vegetables don't have feet.

Duh, dad!!

Savannah continues to amazes us with the funny little things she says.

Savannah's Birthday

Last week, Savannah celebrated her 4th birthday! It was a very busy day!! Looking back just gives me a headache and I need time to catch my breath!

Her special day started with pancake with a few of her friends. It was a Monday and I kept it small. I didn't know how much I could handle. It was a good idea. She has been talking about her birthday for about 3 or 4 months. Everynight she will go to bed the oriental trading company party catalog and dream about what she will have at her party. She went through a few various themes and then decided on a princess party. It was a crazy time. It rained that morning and was so humid (for utah) and it was hot. Lucky for me I have 2 great sisters and a mom who came and helped me out. They were complete lifesavers!! I am glad that decided to only have "friend" parties every other year like I had growing up. That kind of chaos really needs to be controlled and in small doses!!

Kris and I then went to McD's where there was another child's party already in progress. We thought we were safe going at 11 am. No such luck! It was crowded and really noisy. And don't get me started on the lunatics that park themselves in the play area with a group of 10 adults and one older childer. Come on people! Get a clue!!

I left Kris as soon as her friend Cami arrived. Not because I don't like Cami but because I had to take olivia to the doctor. She had a pussy goopy eye the day before and then her ear looked like ear wax had exploded. She was in a great mood so I was sure she wasn't sick. I explained to the doctor and he agreed with me. Olivia was happy and playing. well, i should say he agreed with me until he looked at her ear! Yep, super infected. He pulled out a big wad of ear wax and puss. So much for me knowing my kid. By the way, Danielle totally called it. She said it was a secondary infection in the eye and an ear infection. Seriously, smarty pants!!

I left the dr's office. It took a record 35 minutes. Seriously, I love fast appointments. Met kris just as she was leaving McD's and took Savannah. Filled Olivia's RX and then went to Harmon's. Olivia took a long nap and Savannah was over hyped up on birthday excitement.

I went home to begin preparations for Party #2. Eric's sister's Birthday is the same day. So I usually do a party at my m om's and

signing and talking

Olivia is now 16 months old. She is very developed in her personality. She can only talk a little but she definetly gets her point across. We have been watching baby signing times in the car and I think it is working. It is so much nicer to listen to the songs then dora or some other annoying kids show. Here are a few of the things she can do:

Signs

  • milk (mil)

  • please (pease)

  • more (mo)

  • hat (ha)

Words

  • mom

  • bee (pacificer or binky)

  • uh-huh

  • da dad (daddY"S GIRL)

she also kind of spits out words here there. She loves to chatter. I can never understand her but she acts like you are totally having a conversation with her. She will also shake her head and nod if she wants something.

Last night, I was putting her to bed and I wanted to find out what she knew. She gave me kisses and hugs on demand. When she hugs she makes the oohhh sound. She will give high fives (but not on demand).

It is amazing just how much she is growing. She is learning everyday and it is so wonderful!

recital rehearsal

the dress rehearsal for savannah's dance recital was kind of funny. they were the first class to do perform. the first time the girls danced amazing, only problem was the music was off. the second time. well, the second time was not so hot. the music was not the problem. savannah was the problem. she was having a small meltdown. ricki, another dancer, always led the girls onto the stage. she was number 1. and savannah figured since they take turns that it was her turn to be number one. so she was crying the whole second run through. i didn't know what the problem was until after the incident. she cried about it for a while. the whole next day (tuesday) i prepped her that she was not 1 but 3 or 4 but not 1. so she was ready for that. I guess what happened at the recital just goes to show you that kids are aware of things and they (especially savannah) like to have things as consistant as possible. Oh and I forgot her ballet shoes. In all the excitement to get packed up and over to juan diego, I left them sitting on the counter. Funny thing is that I never forgot shoes the entire year!

random pictures

I love to take pictures of my girls. I have so many. Here are a few from the last month. Livvy is getting so big!!!

reading

I love to read. I read most anything. I love to get lost in a book. Both my parents are readers. Eric is a reader. (that is a whole other post!) As a teenager during hay fever season, I would just lay inside and read. A few weeks ago, much to my surprise. The house was quiet. That is usually the scariest sound to a mother. It means that trouble is brewing. I run upstairs to see this......

What a great sight for a mom to see. I was so excited. I ran to grab my camera so I could capture this moment.

dance recital

Last night was Savannah's first dance recital. It was a lot fun and hard to work to get to this point. It is amazing to see how much she has grown in the last year. She began in August and really she has progressed beyond what I thought she would do. Back to the recital. Let's just say that it will be a memory that we will not forget. Here is the play by play.

First, I have to start out by saying, I think they were supposed to go before they went. Another mom could see them lined up and then a few other acts went a head of them. Not sure why and well I could only imagine with this group. They really are a bunch of characters!!

Being lead out by a helper. So far so good.

Savannah being put in the wrong place. She was put on the 9 and she was not a 9. Trust me the rest of the performance shows this.

Her kind of doing the dance. She is only starting to get ticked off! One little girl has already run off the stage. Not the best start.

Okay. So then my camera chooses to take blurry pictures. But I can sum it up for you. Savannah is mad!! She kind of freezes and then looks like she wants to cry. She knows that she is supposed to be the 4th person in. And it shows. I just wanted to run up on stage and then put her in the right spot. She really did know the dance. I will post the recital practice pictures so you can see that. Oh well, this is the first one and well she did great.
After the performance, watching the show. Hercules was the theme. It was an amazing production and very entertaining. Savannah and Lexi completed the evening by dancing like the prima ballerinas they are by dancing in the aisle.

After the show. She was cranky and hungry. She drank a whole kids sprite from mcd's in about 2 minutes. Note to self. Feed kid during recital!!

It was a fun night. It was great to see that Savannah was up there and growing so fast. Thanks to all that came to support her! We missed you, Dad!

what happens when mom stays up too late!!

So I stayed out way too late last night. I have a habit of doing that. I went out with friends. We seem to start late. (after kids go to bed at 9 we get together at 9:30). We head for treats and such. It is always a good time and more often or not we talk and talk and talk. We really needed last night. We have A LOT to talk about. So I was tired this morning. Not up to mom duties. I played on the computer and the girls ate their cereal (out of baggies) and not much else or so I thought.....

Looks like Olivia found the bag of dum-dums left from our trip to St George.
Looks like she didn't want to eat them just unwrapped and taste test.
Aren't kids just wierd?

Old Friends

Angie, Me, Melissa, Amber, Tori and Krissie

It has been said that your college friends are the friends who know you best. I couldn't agree more. I love these ladies. This is a small group compared to the whole group but it was fun to catch up with them. Amber comes in town every june. (She lives in North Carolina.) So every June, she plans a party. It is always a fun time. We just relax and talk. The kids play and have a great time. This year there was was only one exception. Eric and the kids stayed home. Eric knew that he wouldn't be able to go since we have so much going on with getting the house ready to stucco. But I was planning on going without the kids. Until Monday morning, when both kids were sick. I was so sad. Here it was a set time to see my girlfriends who I have known for years and I was sad all day long. Eric called around 4:00 and told me that he would work for a few hours and then I could go and see my friends! I was so excited! I had a great time catching up and seeing new babies! We took this picture at the end and Catherine had already left. Thanks Ladies for a great time. We miss all of you who live far away and I hope you enjoy this picture. It is always fun to see how much (or how little) people have changed! Thanks Amber ( & her parents!) for a great time!

from start to the end

My mom always took pictures of us on the first day of school. It was at the bus stop or later on when we carpooled, at the front door. This something I started with Savannah. I also took pictures of her with Olivia and I took simillar pictures today. I think it was be fun to see how much she has changed each year from the start of the year to the end of the year.
Olivia kept getting in this picture. She kept saying "cheese!" The picture of just Savannah didn't turn out!

last day of school

Today was Savannah's last day of preschool for the summer. I was excited but also a little sad. She won't have the same teachers next year and I know how much she loves them! Both of the teachers told me how much they are impressed with Savannah and how far she has come in the last year. She started the year out crying and not wanting to be there and now she is happy and loves school. They put together books comparing how they were at the beginning of the year and how far they have come. It is amazing to see how much she learned in the last nine months! She can write her name. She knows all her letters and can count to 29. I was totally crying when i was looking at the book. It was so sweet! I know that she is not yet 4 but she is really growing up!!! She was really funny after I picked her up she kept saying she was going on summer vacation. I don't think she realizes that she isn't going back until the end of august!
Lexi, Savannah and Ellie. (lexi did not want her picture taken. at all!)
Savannah and Miss Darcie
Lexi after school and in a happy mood!
Savannah's Class and Miss Sue. It was just of the girls and more and more kids kept getting in. I figured why not, you never know who those kids will end up being and it is always nice to have a picture of them. (I went to preschool with the owner of the school and we would have loved a picture together now!)

internet down

our internet was down for about 24 hours. seriously, I thought I was going to die. I realized that I could live without most things but I have become dependent on the internet. i love just clicking and checking. I love it. So maybe I need to dial it back a bit but I really don't want to. Eric figured out the problem. Yeah!

a new favorite thing

Olivia has a new favorite thing. She likes to eat it and play with it. Can you guess what it is?

Yep! DIRT! She loves it.I can understand the playing in dirt. That is just a kid thing, but eating it. It drives me crazy. She will eat dirt anywhere. She is not particular and loves all the dirt around. The dirt in Kris's house plants to the sandy dirt in our flower beds. I am not sure if I should be worried. Is she lacking some mineral and is trying to get it in our garden or what? Oh and she likes to suck on rocks. That one is just plain wierd. Here are a few pictures of what she looks like after eating the dirt. As you can see she is just happy as can be to have had a nice snack of soil.

familliar face

I grew up in Draper. We moved there when I was 3 and moved away when I was almost 13. It has a dear spot in my heart. I loved growing up in a small town. It was really small back then. Almost everyone had a least one cousin in their grade. Simillar last names. It goes on. I loved the small town feel. Growing up on a small farm. We had all sorts of animals. Everyone knew everyone or you knew of them. There was one man just like that. He rode his bike everywhere. I think his name was Ray. I can't remember his last name. Well, the reason for the post is that I was driving home from Kris's house on Tuesday. I was about to get to the old railroad tracks by Draper park. I saw a man with a bike who was going to cross the road. This road can get pretty busy at this hour, so I slowed down and let him cross. As he was crossing, I realized that I knew him. It was Ray. He looked the same. Just 20 (plus) years older. His bike was a mountain bike instead of a ten speed and his clothes were newer. He was still wearing his baseball hat. I can't believe I recognized him. It really has been over 20 years since we moved. Has this ever happened to you? You are going along just living your life and a face that you remember pops up? I think it really got me thinking about life and growing up in Draper when it was a small town and how now it is so big and crazy (compared to what it was when we moved there from los angeles.)

tomatoes

savannah has discovered a new treat. tomatoes.
today, eric came home from work to find Savannah sitting on the couch eating a tomato. yes, a tomato. she was eating it like an apple. where was I you ask? blogging. where else?

We hope everyone had a great day! Thanks for being a great part of our family! We love you and love having you in our family!

def leppard

in honor of def leppard being on dancing with the stars last night, i thought I would post a few pictures from their concert that we went to almost 2 years ago. It was a great night. we were late to the concert. It was at Usana and we took the long way there and only got to hear two of journey's songs. I was about 8 or 9 weeks pregnant with Olivia and I got sick halfway through the concert. It was a fun night. Eric, Alan and Steve were so excited to go to the concert it was like they were rebelious teenagers!! I felt like I went to the concert 20 years too late. Considering I loved them while I attended Indian Hills Middle School, I am pretty sure that I was 20 years too late but I have to say that it was worth it!

I also want to say that I am so excited for Neil Diamond on American Idol tonight. I have to say that I am a huge fan. I went to his concert about 10 years ago now. It was awesome. We were totally rocking with the people in the wheel chairs!! It was so fun. And full of old people!! He is also on the Today show this friday. Seriously, can life get any better?
